Capital K Distillery Owner and Head Distiller Jason Kang is proud to announce the historic launch of Tall Grass Rye Whisky, the first distilled rye whiskey from Capital K Distillery and possibly the first craft whisky produced in Manitoba

To be legally called Whisky, spirits must be aged in charred barrels for a minimum of three years. As such, Tall Grass Rye Whisky was barreled three years ago, and the craft distillery is thrilled to be able to share the finished product with the public.

“This is a tough business,” said Capital K Distillery owner and distiller Jason Kang. “It takes a lot just to keep the lights on. Committing to a three-year production process was a big leap for us but it has ultimately paid off. We are extremely excited to be coming out of the pandemic stronger than ever and finally bringing this beloved spirit to Manitoba.”

While the official date that Tall Grass Whisky can be found in stores is still up in the air (bottle delays have pushed the date back a bit), Capital K Distillery is inviting craft spirit loves and whisky enthusiasts into the distillery on November 12 to pre-buy bottles, tour the facility and meet with the distillery staff. Only forty tickets, ad $20 each are available to the public. They can be purchased HERE.

“Whisky production is something that can really put a province on the map,” said Kang. “We’re excited to be able to do that for Manitoba and create something special in the craft spirits industry in Winnipeg. Because of the time commitment and the amount of space needed to age a product for three years, this is a very limited release. But we hope to be able to increase production and introduce a wheat-based whisky in the future.

Approximately 200 bottles will be available for purchase at $44.99 per bottle. Tall Grass whisky is distilled from 100% Manitoba-grown rye. It is described as:

Appearance: clear, pale gold
Nose: clean, light, apple, honey, cinnamon, smoke
Palate: dry, smooth, light, oak, allspice, pear finish
